Student Writer Instructions:
In Tough Boris, six carefully chosen adjectives are used to tell the story of an infamous pirate. The book's wonderful illustrations suggest that the story could also be told from the point-of-view of a smaller character: the stow-away. Look again at the book, if you didn't notice how the stow-away appears on almost every page! As practice for this writing task, your teacher might have you describe Tough Boris from the stow-away's perspective.
For this original writing exercise, you will choose three fun characters to write about by pressing the first button below several times. Pressing the second button will give you a choice of an interesting adjective that might describe your characters. For each character, can you come up with 5 more on your own, for a total of 6 adjectives? Don't settle for easy words that pop into your head too fast! Choose six fantastic words that really capture your character and that really sound good when said aloud!
When you have brainstormed great adjectives for three different characters, choose your favorite brainstorm and prepare to write about just that one character. You will write about your chosen character as though he/she is being watched by someone else.
Pressing the third button below will give you ideas for someone who might be watching your character in secret. Can you use all six of your fantastic adjectives when writing from that point of view?
