The Start & Stop Game: Prepositional Phrases

This writing prompt generator was one of the first twenty-one interactive word games presented at the original WritingFix in-service sponsored by the Northern Nevada Writing Project.

Writer Instructions:

Good Start & Stop Poems or Paragraphs are fun to make...and they're challenging! If you like this exercise, you might devote a page in your journal or your writer's notebook to paragraphs and poetry inspired by the Start & Stop Word Game below.

Click on the button below until you find a prepositional phrase that inspires a description or a poem in your mind.  Sometimes just one good phrase can put a whole story or poem idea in your head!    Click the button below until that happens.

The object of every Start & Stop Poem or Paragraph is to include the phrase you're given below in BOTH your first sentence and your last sentence.  Can you do it without simply repeating the first sentence at the end? Can you make the first and last sentence different from each other, except for the clause they share.

Optional grammar challenge: If you would like to learn more about the power of prepsitional phrases while playing this word game, feel free !  Click here for some facts about prepositional phrases .
